Animal Lovers

Animal Lovers

Your dog or cat can be your best friend.  But they are also a responsibility!

Animals need attention and affection so care and consideration should be given before getting a pet.

Residents may have up to 2 cats and/or 2 dogs on lots under 1000m2 and up to 2 cats and 5 dogs on lots over 1000m2.

To be loved by your neighbours, they also need to be well behaved. Please consider the following to ensure a happy safe environment for your pet.

  • Please be sure your pet cannot escape from your yard. Animals and cars don’t mix.
  • Have your pet de-sexed. Animals who are de-sexed are 5 times more likely to live past the age of 5 as those pets who are not.
  • Teach your pet early that snakes and cars are not toys.
  • If your dog is barking, discourage it. It’s probably bored and needs a play.
  • On holidays or events where fireworks are a possibility, even in the distance, lock your pet inside.
  • Please give wildlife at Bingara Gorge a fiting chance and give your cat a bell.
  • Even though your pet is microchipped, a collar with its name and your phone number and/or street address will help neighbours return it to you if it gets lost.
  • Under the Companion Animals Act, dogs need to be restrained by a leash when in public or on community lands.
  • Some plants are poisonous to pets. For a full list of what not to plant next to your pet’s food bowl is here http://www.rspcansw.org.au/animal_info/Toxic_Plants.
  • Not everyone loves cats or dogs so please teach your animal to await an invitation before leaping lovingly onto a strangers’ favourite white pants.
  • Please ensure your cats and dogs are kept safely within your own lot unless accompanied.
  • In case your mate does get out, register it on the Pet Register with a mug shot so neighbours can bring it back home.
  • If a neighbour’s dog is barking disruptively, you can elect to either talk with the owner about it directly or if necessary, talk with council about the Barking Dog complaint process.

“Feed my Hound”

Pets are great but are sometimes hard to cater for when we are away on holidays or just late getting home at night.

If you are an animal owner or just an animal lover, here is a great opportunity to meet and partner with your neighbours by registering in the Animal Lovers Network as a willing carer.

Alternatively, if you would like to set up a home business to love and feed Bingara Gorge’s pets when their owners are away, contact the Community Manager who would be delighted to help spread the word.
