As well as:
- Reducing the use of our precious drinking water
- Eliminate the need for individual water tanks, pumps and plumbing which means you don’t have the associated maintenance costs.
What is water recycling and reuse?
- Recycled water is treated waste-water or stormwater that has been treated and recycled to a high standard.
Reused water is water that would otherwise have been wasted, such as stormwater, rainwater, or greywater and remains untreated.
What is recycled water?
Recycled water is water produced from the thorough treatment of wastewater and stormwater, resulting in high quality recycled water suitable for irrigation and other non-drinking water uses such as toilet flushing, washing cars, etc.
Recycled Water Straight to your home
All homes and community buildings in Bingara Gorge will be connected to a dual water system comprised of town/drinking water and recycled water. Recycled water will help us reduce the impact on the natural environment and save our precious drinking water. It will also save you money as the recycled water will be cheaper than town water!
In your new home, you will be using recycled water for toilet flushing only, and in the garden you will be using it for irrigation.
The recycled water is also being used around Bingara Gorge for the irrigation of the golf course and the other open spaces we share such as parks and streets.
You should only be using town/drinking water outside for refilling pools, fish ponds and water for pets etc.
The water recycling system, together with your home’s AAA rated fixtures, is expected to reduce town water usage by up to 50%.
The water management system has been designed with sufficient capacity to ensure there will be adequate water for use within the homes. Emergency capacity will be built in to the recycled water system, however water restrictions on garden use may apply in times of severe drought.
Important Note for the Bingara Gorge community
As a resident of Bingara Gorge, you will have access to a communitywide recycled water system delivering recycled water to each home, reducing dependence on drinking water by approximately 40%. The recycled water will be a by-product of the Bingara Gorge sewerage treatment plant. Whilst current water restrictions apply, we ask that you use water from the recycled water system in a responsible manner. We also strongly recommend that no one from your family washes or drinks from the recycled water taps.
